Tom Gross
Tom is a self-taught painter who resides in East Peoria, IL, with his wife Tina and their four children. He began painting cityscapes in the early 90's with some success, winning awards at regional shows. Until recently work and family claimed most of his studio time, but as life became less hectic he has returned to his easel with a renewed zeal.Tom prefers to work in acrylics because of the fast drying time and wide variety of colors. His painting style is a mix of realism with a splash of impressionism; he refers to it as "chasing realism". His canvases are on somewhat of a large scale; most exceed 50" in at least one direction. He paints large so his paintings make a bold statement when seen in person.Tom is a member of the Bohemian Art Society, on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Art League, and the chairman of the Eagle Landing Fine Art Festival at Riverfront Park in East Peoria. He is constantly looking for new venues for artists in the community to exhibit their work.Tom's paintings have been seen at many regional shows, some of which he has just began attending again. Just in the past year he has won the Percival J. Rennick Award at the Peoria Historical Society spring show and the Jurors Award at Art in the Park in Galesburg, IL. The Peoria Art Guild, The ArtPort at the Greater Peoria Airport, Monroe Art Gallery, and Affordable Art all represent him locally. His work can also be seen in many private and corporate collections, including the City Halls of both Peoria and Normal. |
